Screw Spacing Calculator
Evenly spaced screw positions along a board, marked from one end.
What is Screw Spacing?
Dividing a board into equal bays and centring a screw in each bay is the layout that looks right: every gap identical, and each end screw the same distance from the edge as the gaps between screws. The count is chosen first — the positions follow. Structure beats decoration: studs, joists and framing members are where screws go, and this page's spacing is for the runs between them.
How it works
Bay = (length − 2 × edge offset) ÷ count. Position i = edge offset + bay × (i + ½). The full position list is printed in inches, ready to transfer with a tape measure, and the bay width is shown so a spacer block can be cut at exactly that dimension.
