What is Table Formatter?

A table formatter for Markdown: it takes an already-written but messily aligned table and re-pads every column to a clean, readable alignment.

How it works

Each row is parsed into cells, column widths are computed, and cells are padded to align the pipes and separators.

  1. Enter your input. Type or paste your input into the field above — the tool responds instantly.
  2. Review the result. Output updates live as you type. Everything runs entirely in your browser.
  3. Copy or download. Use the Copy button to grab the result, or Download to save it as a file.

Examples

Aligning ragged tables

Paste a messy table with misaligned pipes and the formatter pads every column for clean, readable alignment.

Common mistakes

Alignment is cosmetic

Formatting only changes padding — the parsed table data is identical before and after.

Frequently asked questions

Does it preserve alignment settings?

Yes — the delimiter row's alignment colons are kept and re-applied to the padded output.

What if a row has the wrong column count?

The formatter flags inconsistent rows so you can fix them first.
