What is Frequency?
Frequency is how often something repeats per second, measured in hertz. The SI prefixes take it from a mains supply at 50 Hz to a processor at several GHz, and revolutions per minute convert into the same family because a rotation is a cycle.
How it works
One hertz is one cycle per second, so the prefixed units are powers of a thousand and RPM is hertz times 60. Because the rotation units go through the same base unit, 3000 RPM reads as 50 Hz.

Examples
Shaft speed
Enter 3000 RPM and read 50 Hz — the figure a variable-frequency drive manual expects.
Common mistakes
Frequency vs data rate
A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band is a radio frequency, not 2.4 gigabits per second. Bits per second is a data-transfer rate — a different quantity with its own converter.
RPM vs revolutions per second
A factor of 60 separates them. Mixing them up makes an angular speed sixty times wrong.
Frequently asked questions
Is RPM a frequency?
Yes — revolutions per minute is a cycle count per unit time, so 1 RPM is 1/60 Hz. It is the same physical quantity in a different unit.
What is the period of a frequency?
The reciprocal: a 2 Hz signal repeats every 0.5 seconds. This converter does not report periods, but the reciprocal of the hertz value is the period in seconds.
