What is Curl?
Curl measures the rotation of a vector field about a point. A field with zero curl everywhere is irrotational, which is what lets it be written as the gradient of a potential.
How it works
The six partial derivatives the determinant formula needs are computed symbolically and combined: (∂R/∂y − ∂Q/∂z, ∂P/∂z − ∂R/∂x, ∂Q/∂x − ∂P/∂y). A field like ⟨−y, x, 0⟩ returns a constant curl of 2 in the z direction, which is the field circling the origin.
