What is Months Between?
Months are not a fixed number of days, so dividing a day count by 30.44 drifts by a day or more over anything longer than a few months. A calendar-aware count asks how many whole months can be stepped from the start before overshooting the end, which is the number contracts, leases and ages actually mean.
How it works
The start date is advanced whole months at a time with month-end clamping, stopping at the last month that does not pass the end date; the leftover is reported as remaining days. Because January 31 plus one month is the end of February rather than early March, the count matches what a person would write in a calendar.
