Characters to Pages Converter
Estimate how many pages a character count runs to, through the words in between.
What is Characters ↔ Pages?
Character counts arrive from places that never deal in pages: a CMS word field, a manuscript submission system, a translation quote, a chat message limit. Turning one into a page estimate takes two steps, and both of them are approximations, which is why the intermediate word count matters — when the page figure looks wrong it is nearly always one of the two averages that is wrong rather than the arithmetic, and seeing the words figure in the middle is what makes that diagnosable instead of mysterious.
How it works
The character count is divided by the average characters per word, giving words, and the words are divided by the words-per-page figure for the chosen font, size and spacing. Both assumptions are inputs rather than constants, and the full derivation is printed under the controls. A table applies the same two settings to the character counts that come up in practice — a page, a short essay, a dissertation chapter — so a figure can be sanity-checked against a familiar one before it is relied on.
