What is File Hash?
A file checksum tool. Choose a file and an algorithm to compute the digest that lets you verify the file's integrity against the publisher's published value.
How it works
The file is read as an ArrayBuffer and hashed with crypto.subtle (or the bundled MD5) without ever leaving your device.
- Enter your input. Type or paste your input into the field above — the tool responds instantly.
- Review the result. Output updates live as you type. Everything runs entirely in your browser.
- Copy or download. Use the Copy button to grab the result, or Download to save it as a file.
Examples
Verifying a downloaded file
Drop a downloaded ISO and compute its SHA-256 to compare against the checksum published by the vendor.
Common mistakes
Reading the wrong algorithm
Vendors publish different digests (MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256). Compute the same one they list — SHA-256 is the safe default.
Frequently asked questions
Does the file leave my device?
No — the file is hashed locally; nothing is uploaded.
Can I hash very large files?
Yes — the file is streamed in chunks, so size isn't a problem.
