What is Seating Chart?

A seating chart does more than arrange desks: it is how a teacher separates a pair who distract each other, or keeps a student who needs support near the front or beside a particular classmate. So the tool takes constraints as well as a class list, and reports honestly when a constraint cannot be met on the grid you gave it.

How it works

Random layouts are generated and each is scored against your keep-apart and keep-together pairs — a pair counts as adjacent side-by-side or diagonally. The first clean layout wins; if none is found within a few hundred attempts the best one is kept and the clashing pairs are named, rather than silently printing a chart that breaks your instruction. Anyone who does not fit on the grid is listed instead of being dropped.
