Book Completion Time Calculator
Work out how many days a book will take from its length, your reading speed and your daily reading time.
What is Book Completion?
The question behind every stalled reading list is arithmetic: a book of a given length, read at a given speed for a given number of minutes a day, takes a knowable number of days. Stating it turns “I never finish books” into a schedule, and it usually produces a surprise in one direction — either the book is a fortnight of ten-minute sittings, or it needs an hour a day for a month and was never going to fit the plan it was assigned to. Both answers are useful.
How it works
The book's length is taken in words, with a page count optionally converted at the words-per-page figure for the format being read, and the daily capacity is the reading speed multiplied by the minutes available per day. Dividing one by the other gives days to finish, which is rounded up to whole days for the calendar date. A table then holds the minutes per day constant and varies the pace, and another holds the pace constant and varies the minutes — the two levers there are, side by side, because “read faster” and “read longer” are not interchangeable answers and the tables show which one is cheaper.
