Typing Accuracy Test
Measure typing accuracy on an untimed passage and see exactly which characters you get wrong.
What is Typing Accuracy Test?
Accuracy is the percentage of characters you type correctly, and it is the measurement that predicts whether more speed will stick. A timed test cannot measure it well, because the clock pushes people into the error rate they are trying to reduce — so this page has no clock at all. What it adds over a percentage is the map: 96% tells you how much you got wrong, and the character list tells you which key to drill.
How it works
Each typed character is compared with the passage at the same position, so a character typed one place late counts as an error at both positions rather than as a match somewhere else. The map shows the errors still present when the run ends: a backspace removes the mistake from the map and is counted in the correction total instead. The two figures answer different questions — what is wrong with the text, and how much work it took — and a run can score 100% with a very high correction rate.
