Typing Speed Test (WPM)
Measure your typing speed over 1, 3 or 5 minutes on original passages, with net WPM, raw WPM and accuracy.
What is Typing Speed Test?
A typing speed test measures how many characters you can produce correctly in a fixed time, and reports it as words per minute. The number is only comparable between runs if the conventions match: a "word" here is five characters rather than a dictionary word, net WPM counts only the characters you got right, and a one-minute sprint reads two to five words per minute above a five-minute average. All three of those are stated on the page rather than assumed, which is what makes two runs worth comparing.
How it works
The clock starts on your first keystroke and the remaining time is recomputed from the target each tick rather than counted down, so a backgrounded tab cannot make the run faster or slower than it was. Correctness is judged position by position against the passage, which is what lets the accuracy percentage and the per-character colouring agree with each other. A timed run moves through a queue of passages, so finishing one mid-minute does not end the test early.
