Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the distance calculator?

It uses the Haversine formula for great-circle distance on a sphere, accurate to within ~0.5% for most distances. For survey-grade precision, use a specialized GIS tool.

Does the IBAN validator check if the account exists?

No — it validates the IBAN format and checksum. It cannot verify whether the bank account is active or belongs to a real person.

How precise is a geohash?

Each character adds about 2.5 bits of precision: 6 characters cover roughly 1.2 km × 0.6 km, 10 characters about 3.7 m × 1.9 m, and 12 characters about 3.7 cm. Longer hashes pinpoint smaller cells.

What is MGRS?

The Military Grid Reference System builds on UTM: a zone number, a latitude-band letter, two 100 km square letters, then easting/northing digits. Ten digits resolve to about 1 metre; fewer digits give coarser 10 km to 100 m precision.
