Common Multiples Calculator
Find the common multiples of two numbers, built from their LCM.
What is Common Multiples?
A common multiple of a and b is a multiple of both at once: the common multiples of 4 and 6 are 12, 24, 36, … — exactly the multiples of their least common multiple, 12. The LCM is never larger than a × b, and equals it only when the two numbers share no factor, which is why 4 × 6 = 24 is a common multiple of 4 and 6 but not the least one.
How it works
The LCM is computed as a ÷ gcd(a, b) × b — dividing first, because a × b can overflow where that cannot — and the list is built from it as lcm, 2 × lcm, 3 × lcm, … Testing every candidate for divisibility by both numbers answers the same question a thousand times more slowly. When one number divides the other, the larger is the LCM and the two lists coincide.
