What is Multiples?

The multiples of n are its times table: 7, 14, 21, 28, … Every multiple is n × k for a whole k, which makes them an arithmetic sequence with first term n and common difference n — the same sequence the arithmetic-sequence page computes, arrived at by multiplication instead of addition. A number's multiples and its divisibility are the same fact seen from opposite ends.

How it works

The list is generated directly as n × 1, n × 2, … rather than tested candidate by candidate, so a hundred multiples is as instant as two. Only the first 200 are rendered — a longer run is counted, not listed — and the kth multiple is reported as n × k, which is the answer a 'what is the 10th multiple of 7' question is really asking for.
